Plot

Naofumi Iwatani was summoned into a parallel world along with three other people to become the world’s Heroes. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi happened to receive the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment, while the others received weapons capable of attacking. Unlike the other heroes who are fully supported by the kingdom and gain several strong allies each, Naofumi’s luck turns to the worse after his single companion, later revealed to be none other than Princess Myne, betrays him, and leaves him devoid of all assistance and supplies after she falsely accuses him of raping her.

Shunned by everyone from the King to peasants, Naofumi is forced to train as a hero alone while working to make ends meet, until he buys from a slave trader a young tanuki demi-human girl named Raphtalia and an egg that hatches into a bird creature whom he names “Filo”, both quickly growing into adulthood and becoming powerful warriors under his care. As they little by little gain the trust and gratitude of the people with their heroic actions, Naofumi and his companions work hard to fulfill their mission as saviors of the world, while unraveling its deepest secrets.

Characters

Tanjirō Kamado
The oldest son of a charcoal-seller; His entire family was attacked by a demon while he was selling charcoal, with only his sister Nezuko surviving. His goal is to find a cure for her, and turn her back into a human, and it is to this end that he decides to join the Demon Slayer Corps. He initially trained under Urokodaki, learning the “Breath of Water” sword-style, but has since begun to branch out; He began to use his family’s Dance of the Fire God, as a more powerful form of fighting, but later merged it with the Breath of Water techniques, to create a more sustainable fighting style. His skull is extremely thick and his head-butts are often used as gags through the series. He is a kind-hearted boy and often feels sadness for demons and their victims. His endless optimism and simple nature often has people enjoy his company, but at the same time, it also puts him at odds with certain personalities. His sword is black.

Nezuko Kamado
The Daughter of a charcoal-seller and Tanjiro’s younger sister. She was with her family, when they were attacked and killed by a demon. She alone survived, but the attack left her transformed into a demon. However, unlike many new-born demons, Nezuko has managed to maintain some form of her earlier consciousness, which allowed her to recognize Tanjiro as her brother and not hurt him. Further reinforcement by Urokodaki, has helped her develop into demon who does not consume human flesh. She regains energy from sleep and only harms demons. She is unable to speak as a demon, but she is also made to wear a wooden gag as a precaution from biting anyone. She has several powers, including regeneration, superhuman strength, Growing and shrinking rapidly and a technique that causes her blood that is outside her body to burn. Tanjiro generally carries her around in a wooden box, as being in the sun would cause her to burn up.

Zenitsu Agatsuma
A cowardly boy, who joined the Demon Slayer Corps at around the same time as Tanjiro. He trained in the Breath of Lightning, by the former Lightning Pillar, but was only able to learn the first technique, and because of this he often belittles himself, despite the fact that he is not untalented. He joins up with Tanjiro on a mission and since then, he has tagged along with him, partially because he thinks Nezuko is beautiful. His cowardly personality initially hinders him, but he later learns to push his fears aside and take action when he must. His sword is yellow.

Inosuke Hashibira
A young boy, who was raised by a wild boar. He uses as self-designed style, Breath of the Beast, along with two broken swords in battle; When he gets new swords, he purposely breaks them in order to match his preference and fighting style (Much to the sword-maker’s anger). He is brash and prone to reacting violently, and while he appears dim, he has proven himself in battle, time after time. He is extremely muscular and rugged, which contrasts with his oddly, effeminate face, which he normally hides under a boar’s head. When he first meets Tanjiro, he treats him as an enemy, but he quickly becomes friends as they fight together. He often challenges Tanjiro to competitions which are accepted in good-spirit. Unlike Tanjiro and Zenitsu, he never official took the test to joint the Demon Slayer Corps, but has since been acknowledged as part of them, having joined with Tanjiro’s group. His swords are violet.

Giyū Tomioka
The Present Water Pillar; He is the first Demon Slayer that Tanjiro comes across. He, initially tries to kill Nezuko, but reconsiders after seeing her protect an unconscious Tanjiro. He has them both go to Urokodaki, in the hopes that Tanjiro will master the Breath of the Water, and follow in his footsteps as a pillar, as well as fulfil his goal of curing Nezuko. He does not think of himself as a true pillar, despite mastering the Breath of Water, believing that one of his peers, Sabito, who died saving other Demon Slayers-in-training, was the one truly suited for the role. He has developed an additional technique to the Breath of Water, which he alone knows.
